My two year old has horrible breath. I brush his teeth at least twice a day. My husband has tried taking him to the dentists twice, but couldn’t get him to open his mouth to let her look or smell. Some days it is so bad that I think he needs a diaper change before I realize that it is just his breath. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem in their toddler, and if so, what did you do to fix it?
It could be his glands. If they are large they dry out quickly and that smells. Make sure he drinks plenty and take him to a pediatrician so he can check, he will more likely open his mouth to him. Also a dentist is probably the wrong doctor to take him to. I would take them out that will take care of the problem. The doctor will probably recommend it if they are large but he might wait til he’s older, he will also refer you to the ear-nose-throat doctor since he’s the one who does this. Brushing his teeth wont make it better, since its not coming from there. No there’s really no mouthwash for toddlers. I would make sure he’s getting plenty of water to drink. Also, if you can brush his tongue. That’s where all the bacterial hang out and party! You could try giving him some baking soda/water to swish in his mouth. Even if it’s swallowed it won’t harm him. I do this with my 3 and 4 yr. old in the bathtub! My son had this as well his breath used to stink I took him to the doctors and they found out it was his tonsils app there was puss on them that caused the smell but he didn’t have a sore throat or anything so maybe getting him checked by doctors is first step.
